| Sailing Yachts: For Sale: Moody Halberdier |
| Featured Advert!

 |
The Halberdier 36 was designed for Moodys by Alan Hill, and was the first all-GRP yacht built by the yard. A total of 29 were moulded by Marcon (Marine Construction Ltd., Plymouth), and finished by Moodys, between 1967 and 1973.
Most Halberdiers had 35 hp Perkins engines, but this yacht has a larger engine, a 48 hp Perkins, with substantially increased tankage.
Despite the 'motor sailer' tag, the Halberdier is a genuine sailing yacht, with a classic long keel hull form and a powerful rig.
Bellrock II is part 1 registered in the U.K.
She is an ideal boat for living aboard and for sailing single handed. She has been cruised in British and European Atlantic waters.
She is now lying ashore in Povoa de Varzim, Portugal and has undergone refurbishment. Povoa de Varzim is a short metro ride from Porto airport and is a friendly and very well priced marina. Baiona in spain is only a 10 hour sail and short hops down the coast will take you to the Algarve very quickly.
She has been anti-fouled and has had many new items added, including navigation lights.
Easy access from Porto airport to Povoa de Varzim via the metro and discounted hotel accomodation can be arranged.
Open for Negotiation - Not included in the price
Walker Bay 8 ft dinghy, with floatation collar
Honda 2.5hp, 4 stroke outboard
Plastimo life raft
Blow up dinghy
Life belts (5)
Steering
Provided by wheel and connected via a drive shaft and rack and pinion to rudder. There is an electric self steering fitted, although old this has proved very reliable |

Main Generators: 3 GARBE LAHMEYER, RP 119B, 1080 Amp, 545KW/DB, 1500 rpm
Propulsion System: 2 independent screw propellers, each one powered by a GARBE LAHMEYER RP 140C, 1080 Amp, 728 KW/DB, 0-1000 rpm. Navilus Getriebe 5:1 Gearbox.

All the piping after the pump (700mm) is being substituted by a new one during the actual survey (17mm thick). The sand screen system is also being substituted by a new one. This system doesn't allow that stones or any dust over 25 millimeters enters to the hold when dredging sand for commercial purposes.

Marina fees paid until October 2010. Priced at £44,500. VAT paid, Small Ships Registered, RCD compliant. 'Lumen' is a Westwind 35, designed by the American naval architect Robert Perry. Perry is responsible for some of the most seaworthy and beautiful yachts afloat including amongst others the Valiant 40 and Tayana 37 (a design almost identical to the Westwind). Very similar to the Hans Christian, drawn along classic lines with bowsprit, graceful sweeping sheer, lapstrake pattern above the waterline, canoe stern, long keel, substantial rudder, cutter rig, the Westwind 35 combines practical and aesthetic considerations in a safe, beautiful looking, seaworthy yacht. In the marina or at sea Lumen attracts attention, from the most knowledgeable of sailors to those who just think its a pretty boat. The Westwind 35 is an ideal cruising yacht for crossing oceans in safety and comfort with sea-kindly qualities, substantial grp layup, 6'3" headroom, and a huge amount of storage space. As well as up to date maintenance Lumen also benefits from a comprehensive osmosis treatment carried out in 2008. The treatment included an additional layer of fibreglass below the water line to add strength and increase water resistance plus eight coats of West System Epoxy including barrier agent. The purchaser of this boat will have no concerns about the integrity of the hull.
Before buying Lumen I spent three years comparing yachts of all shapes and sizes before finding one with the right combination of space, performance, safety, and aesthetics. Boats viewed included: Westerly Fulmar, Westerly 33, Barbican 33, Tayana 37, Freedom 35, Tahitiana, Challenger 35, Warrior 35, Golden Hind 32, Bowman 34, CSY 33, Halberg Rassy Rassimus, Halberg Rassy 35, Dufour Sortilege, Atkins 32, Formosa 38 and more. In the final analysis the Westwind beat these boats on all points except perhaps for price, it was the right boat for Jo and I, perhaps not everyone's 'cup of tea' but perfect for us.
Westwind boats carry an American Bureau of Shipping certificate and were constructed using Lloyds approved materials.
Lumen is currently on the hard in Povoa de Varzim, northern Portugal, a metro ride from Porto Airport. Ryanair fly to Porto from Stansted, Birmingham, an Bristol, in the UK as well as many other airports across continental Europe. If you wish to view or would like more information, please get in touch. |
